Teacher of the Week: Carla Bromstead

“As soon as I started volunteering in the classroom, I knew it was for me,” said Mary C. Williams Elementary teacher Carla Bromstead.

UPDATE: Onslow Co. home invasion victims identified

videoTwo people are dead after what investigators say was a home invasion in Hubert early Tuesday morning. A news release says the home owner, Jeremiah Hilton, was killed by one of the suspects, and another person in the home shot and killed one of the suspects, Willie Ware.

The first of millions of taxpayer dollars in payments have been sent to private and religious schools across North Carolina while an appeals court considers a judge’s ruling that a new scholarship program for low-income public school children is unconstitutional on several levels.

NC high school player dies after collapse

A high school football player in North Carolina has died after he collapsed before a game last weekend.

Wake County Schools announced Monday that Isaiah Langston of Rolesville High School died after collapsing on the field before Friday night’s game with Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School.

NC group reviewing man’s conviction in death

A North Carolina group is reviewing the case of a man convicted of killing a University of North Carolina Charlotte student more than six years ago.

The Charlotte Observer reported the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence is investigating claims that 46-year-old Mark Carver was wrongly convicted of killing Irina Yarmolenko.

Dozens of dead sharks wash ashore in Oak Island

It was a shocking sight for some residents of Oak Island on the beach yesterday when about 50 sharks were lying by the shore dead.

Dozens of sharks washed ashore ranging anywhere between 1 to 4 feet in size, now the NC Division of Marine Fisheries investigated the situation and they think they know the cause.
