VP nominee Tim Kaine talks national security, criticizes Donald Trump in ILM
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington is in the spotlight again after Vice Presidential Nominee Tim Kaine visited the Port City today.
The senator’s campaign predicted that his speech would be really important for national security, but Kaine also spent a lot of time attacking the GOP candidate.
A room full of familiar faces in the Wilmington area listened as Kaine talked about the importance of nation security especially to North Carolinians.
“North Carolinians care a lot about this,” Kaine said. “I have a boy who is in the Marines who is based here in the Wilmington area up at Lejeune and you know whether it’s Lejeune or Fort Bragg. North Carolina cares a lot about these issues. Virginians do too.”
While Hillary Clinton critics are concerned that she cannot be trusted with vital information, Kaine said he does trust the democratic nominee for president.
“I am one of two million families that have a child in the military,” Kaine said. “I would very much trust Hillary Clinton as commander and chief to do the right thing”
While national security was the big topic, Kaine also spent a lot of the time criticizing Donald Trump saying he does not have to twist the republican’s words.
“‘The american military is going to hell, ridiculing John McCain as a POW, fighting with the Khan family in Virginia, I know more than the generals, I alone can fix it, my principle adviser is myself,'” Kaine said quoting Trump. “These are the kinds of things Donald Trump says and that demonstrates a temperament that’s not suitable.”
Meanwhile, the people in the audience were just glad to see Kaine in Wilmington.
“It’s a spectacle when someone on the presidential ticket comes to town. I’d hate to miss out on it.”
