We've known for months that after 42 years in political office, Sen. R.C. Soles is calling it quits. Tuesday will mark the first Election Day in 42 years Soles could run but will not be on the ballot.

Woman wants answers about son's death

The SBI is investigating the death of a Pender County man. Michael Williams, 32, died about two weeks ago. Now, his mother is speaking out about what she says was negligence on the part of first responders.

UPDATE: Listen to 911 call warning of hospital crash

video A New Hanover Regional Medical Center spokeswoman says at 6:24 a.m. Friday a New Hanover County 911 dispatcher called the hospital's special police to notify officers that the 911 center had just received a call from a man who said he was on his way to the hospital and planned to drive into the emergency room.

NHC Commissioners decline WWAY's invitation to further discuss sales tax increase

State investigating Bladen Co. vote buying allegations

Larry Hammond, Bladen County's Elections Director, said he received a call from the state BOE yesterday informing him of the allegations. He said the BOE did not tell him who made the allegations or about whom the allegations were made.

FIRST ON 3: English rugby player may have infected Wilmington man with mumps

The 21-year-old New Hanover County resident may have been infected with mumps after interacting with members of an English rugby team who were in Wilmington earlier this month. One person from that rugby team has been diagnosed with mumps, and four other team members have developed symptoms consistent with the disease. Each of those individuals is now in England.

FIRST ON 3: UNCW student reports assault on campus

A student has reported to the UNCW Police Department that at approximately 3:30 this morning he was punched by one or more individuals. He reported that the incident occurred on a sidewalk near Wagoner Hall.
