10th annual ‘Sex Matters’ event educates students at CFCC
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There are many misconceptions and myths when it comes to sex. So, Cape Fear Community College held it’s annual “Sex Matters” event to educate students and the community.
The event focused on dispelling myths about sexually transmitted infections as well as offering practical information regarding birth control, sexual assault and prevention, testing and treatment. Many students were shocked when they heard about the impact human trafficking has on the area. They say they want to pay more attention now.
“It’s just kind of awakening, realizing everything that’s going on around the community and just driving through the courthouse everyday and everything downtown, just kind of seeing what going on around and everything that’s taking place,” CFCC Sophomore Santiago Aparcio said.
Presenters included the rape crisis center, the New Hanover County District Attorney’s office, New Hanover County Health Department and Coastal Horizons. Free HIV and Hepatitis C testing was offered as well.
