12-year-old boy facing charges after traffic stop
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — A 12-year-old North Carolina boy is facing extradition following charges that he was caught speeding in a stolen vehicle in Virginia.
The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office says two stolen handguns were also found in the Jeep the boy was driving last Friday when he was spotted going 70 mph hour in a 55 mph zone on State Route 3.
The boy, who is from Haw River, N.C., is charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, two counts of possession of stolen handguns and was given a summons for speeding.
Lt. Eddie Peck of the Sheriff’s Office said Monday that if local and North Carolina authorities can reach an extradition agreement on specific charges, the charges in Spotsylvania may be dropped.
The boy is being held at Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center until his extradition.
