12-year-old NC student arrested for violent sketch

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — A 12-year-old middle school student in North Carolina has been arrested after police say he drew a picture showing the violent death of a teacher’s assistant.

The Fayetteville Observer reports Harnett County sheriff’s deputies have charged the seventh-grade student at Overhills Middle School with communicating threats, disorderly conduct and assault. The boy’s name has not been released because of his age.

A school spokeswoman says he had been placed in in-school suspension for hitting a classmate with a yard stick during art class.

Sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Huber says the drawing showed a ninja with an ax and a grenade attacking a figure accompanied by the name of the teacher’s assistant supervising the suspension. There also was a drawing of a tombstone with the teacher’s assistant’s name.
