13 unlucky for drug suspects
Thirteen was the unlucky number for a couple of drug dealers in New Hanover County over the weekend. In a statewide investigation, New Hanover County detectives confiscated 13 pounds of mushrooms, nearly 13 pounds of high-grade marijuana and $13,000 in cash. A firearm also seized got federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms involved.
Joshua Durrett and Jennifer Chambers face several drug trafficking and possession charges. Sheriff Ed McMahon says this is the largest amount of mushrooms ever confiscated in New Hanover County.
“The mushrooms are a little bit more unusual, and we usually find them in smaller quantities, smaller amounts,” McMahon said. “But the fact that these mushrooms were dried and over 13 pounds, this was a major dealer.”
The drugs, cash, and firearm were taken from a rental house on Mimosa Place off Oleander Drive.
Durrett and Chambers are in the New Hanover County Detention Center.
