1898 Race Riot memorial plans extended

WILMINGTON — The lot at the corner of Third and Davis Streets may not be empty for much longer.

Plans to build an 1898 Wilmington Race Riot memorial there were extended after only one bid was submitted.

The DOT extended the bid deadline to August 14 in hopes of receiving a bid within its budget of nearly $500,000.

Councilwoman Lethia Hankins is co-chair of the Wilmington 1898 Foundation. She’s optimistic that plans will run smoothly.
