Adopt an Angel non-profit group finds homes for pets

videoOn any given weekend you may see a group of people outside of the Petco in Wilmington trying to sell dogs and cats. Those people are volunteers. They spend their free time and money to try and save animals from being put down at the local animal control. They make up the local non-profit pet rescue group called ‘Adopt an Angel.’

Southeastern Mental Health Center facing budget shortfall

The Southeastern Center for Mental Health treats thousands of patients throughout our area and is facing a multi-million dollar budget shortfall. Center Director Art Costantini has asked the state for money. The state said to ask the county — then the county commissioners said to ask the state again.

Governor candidates square off in debate

There are seven candidates vying for the North Carolina Governor’s seat, and most of them debated last night at Cape Fear Community College in a forum sponsored by WWAY NewsChannel 3. Candidates addressed the issues of illegal immigration, the economy and the environment.

Process underway to replace Hewett

Brunswick County is less than a month away from having a new sheriff. State law says that the party of the former sheriff will decide the next sheriff. Because Ron Hewett is a Democrat, the Brunswick County Democratic Party will be choosing the new sheriff. But not without asking for the public’s input.
