Arrests made in Castle Street murder, mass shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police have arrested two teens on murder charges for Sunday’s shooting on Castle Street after tips from community.

Investigators say Tyrek Desmond Anderson, 17, of Wilmington, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Shane Simpson, 16, during a drive-by shooting Sunday morning at Castle and 11th streets.

A WPD spokeswoman says Anderson’s arrest Tuesday led to the arrest of another teen, Deandre Nixon, 16,  of Wilmington, Wednesday.

Police say leads and tips from the public led to the second arrest. Nixon is also charged with first-degree murder.

In 911 calls released Tuesday, you can hear callers, including one of the four other people injured in the shooting, describe the chaos after the late-morning shooting.

Police say additional charges are likely.
