FIRST ON 3: Two jailed for murder in Columbus County


COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — It looks like investigators in Columbus County have cracked a double murder case from more than a year ago.

Two people are in the Columbus County jail tonight, each facing two counts of murder.

Megan Haynes and Justin Reynolds are charged with murder, Reynolds is also charged with larceny of a firearm.

District Attorney Jon David said he would not comment on the details of the arrests until family members are notified, but David did say he and Columbus County Sheriff Lew Hatcher would hold a news conference tomorrow morning. David later told WWAY that the news conference is about the November 2014 murders of Jeanette Thut, 74, and Donna Gore, 55.

Investigators said two female bodies were found behind a home in the in the 2300 block of Blacksmith Road in Bolton when following up on a missing persons report November 3, 2014.
