FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: Son, girlfriend charged in 2014 double murder


COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Deputies said a murder victim’s son and his then-girlfriend are responsible for the crime. Two women were murdered in Bolton in 2014.

Deputies said Megan Haynes and Justin Reynolds are each facing two counts of murder. They’re charged in the November 2014 double murder of Jeanette Thut, 74, and Donna Gore, 55. Investigators said two female bodies were found behind a home in the in the 2300 block of Blacksmith Road in Bolton when following up on a missing persons report November 3, 2014.

A sheriff’s spokeswoman said Reynolds and Haynes were in a relationship at the time of the homicides. Reynolds is also Gore’s son, according to a release.

District Attorney Jon David said he and Columbus County Sheriff Lew Hatcher will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. Thursday in Whiteville.
