WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Despite news tonight that a developer submitted plans to build over the golf course at Echo Farms, the group Save Echos Farms says the fight is not over.
For the past five months dozens of residents have been fighting against development in their neighborhood. Today Matrix Development Group submitted a site plan to the City of Wilmington.
The plans for the Woodlands at Echo Farms calls for 171 single-family homes, 125 town homes and 240 apartments.
Despite the news that the developer wants to build over the golf course, Save Echos Farms says the fight is not over.
We spoke to the Vice Chair of Save Echo Farms tonight who said,
“We’ve got a great solution that benefits our city, that benefits our residents, that benefits Matrix, the owners of the property, that benefits the 11 communities that front the golf course, and we can’t get our city officials to help us. We can’t get Matrix to talk to us. So it’s really frustrating,” Save Echo Farms Vice Chair John Hirchak said in a phone interview.
The group plans to meet this weekend to go over their legal options.
Meanwhile Matrix is waiting to hear back from the City of Wilmington about its proposal.
