New Hanover County releases second opioid epidemic PSA
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY ) — The second PSA created by New Hanover County to discuss the opioid epidemic is now online.
In all, the county is creating six public service announcements aimed at raising awareness of the local opioid epidemic and its impact on the entire community. The latest PSA features three people talking about their experience with addiction. The county says the the goal is to humanize the epidemic and break the denial about the crisis in the community.
On Wednesday, eight agencies in the area will come together to implement the LEAD program in the area. The program is a pre-arrest diversion effort for those who use opioids. Some officers from the Wilmington Police Department have received LEAD training to assist opioid users in finding drug intervention resources.
