Wilmington man accused of dragging, choking elderly woman


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is accused of attacking an elderly woman who declined to give him money and cigarettes.

Wilmington police say Kevin Whiting, 28, approached the victim around 5:45 a.m. on Friday on the Riverwalk in Downtown Wilmington and asked for those items.

Police say when the woman didn’t give Whiting anything, he became violent.

Police say Whiting attacked the victim by dragging her through a nearby field, choking her and striking her in the face.

Wilmington Police arrested Whiting Friday afternoon.

He is being charged with Felony Assault by Strangulation, Assault on a Female, and Second Degree Kidnapping.
