2018 Cape Fear Kite Festival draws hundreds
KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Kite Festival kicked off Saturday at Kure Beach. The event is free and drew quite a crowd.
Hundreds came out to watch and join in on the kite festival. Kites of all shapes and sizes flew high in the sky.
The event was open to kite flyers of all ages and is the last kite event of the season.
Some have been coming out for years, but others joined for the first time.
“It’s great to fly a kite, first of all. And I made this for my grandson this summer and he doesn’t live here in the state, but he left it behind,” said John McGuire. “So I said ‘I’m going to take it out and fly it for you.’ So he’s all excited about that. You know, some awesome kites, a great day.”
McGuire says this is his first year coming out to the festival and he is looking forward to coming back.
The festival runs through Sunday.
