Carolina Beach community comes together for fire victims

PLEASURE ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — When tragedy strikes in Carolina Beach it is not long before the community steps in.

The Pleasure Island Disaster Relief Fund is already raising money for the victims of the fire at the Inland Harbor condominiums which left one person dead Monday morning.

Nearly 20 people, including families, have been displaced with most if not all of their belongings gone.

The Red Cross is helping them with a temporary place to stay but volunteer Greg George with the Pleasure Island Disaster Relief Fund said it is not enough.

George is asking for your help to reach their goal of $50,000 to find a more permanent solution.

“First of all we hope that we can get the people, the you know, the different families, a place to lay their head at night and feel comfortable with it,” George said. “Get them in new location because these people are not gonna be moving back here. We’re gonna have to find the ones that live and work here in Pleasure Island, we’re gonna have to find them long term lodging.”

The Lazy Pirate and the Carolina Beach Bar Club are hosting a dinner to raise money with all food proceeds donated to the fire victims Tuesday, January 16.

If you would like to help out you can drop off cash, checks, or gift cards at Carolina Beach Town Hall. You can also donate on their GoFundMe page.

The Savannah Inn announced online that they have opened their doors for victims who need a place to stay.
