Pedestrian hit and killed near Monkey Junction

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A pedestrian died in an early morning accident in New Hanover County.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, it happened just after midnight Thursday morning on Carolina Beach Road near Glenarthur drive.

Sgt. P.M. Sanders says Kris Shear, of Wilmington, was driving north in her Chevrolet SUV when she hit a pedestrian who was walking in the northbound lane of Carolina Beach Road.

The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing.

The pedestrian, whose name is being held until next of kin are notified, was pronounced dead at New Hanover Regional Medical Center just before 12:30 a.m., Sanders said.

The driver will not face charges.
