Bond set to $300,000 for second degree murder
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man is charged with second degree murder in a fatal DWI crash. He made his first appearance this afternoon.
25-year-old, Steven Michael Derengowski is accused of driving drunk and killing his passenger when he crashed on River road. Prosecutors say Derengowski was driving more than a hundred miles per hour before the crash.
His attorney asked for his $500,000 bond be lowered and said he was not a flight risk. The judge lowered the bond to $300,000.
If he makes bond, he will be put on electronic house arrest and can not drive.
Derengowski was originally charged with DWI and felony death by vehicle.
