WILMINGTON, North Carolina (UNCWSports.com) – UNCW sophomore Blake McShea was named Golfer-of-the-Week by the Colonial Athletic Association on Wednesday after finishing second at the John Burns Intercollegiate last week in Lihue, Hawaii.
For McShea, who is in his first season with the Seahawks, it was his third CAA honor of the 2017-18 season.
McShea rallied in the final two rounds to post his second top-five finish of the season. The Zebulon, N.C., native carded a six-under-par 66 in the second round, a career-low round, to move into a tie for fourth entering the final round. McShea then posted a four-under-par 68 to take ownership of second place.
McShea topped eight of nine golfers ranked in the Golfstat top-100.
The Seahawks finished tied with Grand Canyon for seventh thanks to a third round nine-under-par 279 that lifted them from 14th into the top 10. UNCW has finished in the top seven in each of their six tournaments this season.
UNCW next competes at the Auburn Intercollegiate on Mar 4-6 in Auburn, Ala.
