WILMINGTON, NC (UNCWsports.com) — UNCW earned its second tournament title and sophomore Blake McShea won his first as the Seahawks topped the 14-team field of the ninth annual Seahawk Intercollegiate on Monday at the Country Club of Landfall.
UNCW, which also won the Duck Commander Intercollegiate in late October, posted a 12-shot win over Campbell, which had won three of its last four tournament appearances.
The last time the Seahawks won two tournaments in a season was 2013, when they also captured the Seahawk Intercollegiate and the Colonial Athletic Association championship.
McShea, who became the third Seahawk to win the tournament and first since Payne McLeod in 2013, edged Davidson’s Jack Lang for the medalist title by a single stroke. Lang entered the final round in fifth place, but carded a two-under-par 70 while McShea played even-par golf for the win. UNCW teammatePat Cover finished third while Tyler Kertson of Boston College and Brett McLamb rounded out the top five.
Thomas Eldridge joined McShea and Cover in the top 10 by climbing eight spots and tying for ninth.
Freshman Christofer Rahm finished a career-best 12th for the Seahawks.
For McShea, it was his fourth top-10 finish of the season and the third time in the top five. Eldridge leads the Seahawks with four top-10 finishes.
UNCW led the tournament field in both Par 3 (2.93) and Par 5 (4.66) scoring while also converting 52 birdies, tying with Campbell.
The Seahawks closeout their regular season at the Clemson Invitational on Apr. 13-16, in Sunset, S.C.
