BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A former Sunset Beach man whose child molestation trial ended in a hung jury is back in the Brunswick County jail on new charges of sexually assaulting a child.
Jay Johnson Waugh Jr, 35, was arrested in Harnett County on Saturday, according to online reports.
He was brought to Brunswick County on Thursday.
According to the arrest warrants, Waugh is charged with first degree rape of a child and eight counts of first degree sex offense of a child.
Warrants allege the crimes happened between May 31, 2004 and May 31, 2009.
In January of 2016, Waugh was on trial for indecent liberties with a minor. The victim in that case was 3-years-old.
After deliberations, jurors were unable to reach a verdict. The count was 11 to 1 in favor of conviction.
A judge declared a hung jury.
