Murderer denied parole in 2015 once again considered for release

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A woman convicted of killing a man in Wilmington in 1990 is once again being considered for parole.

According to court documents, Dreamer Lee Cottle Alston, 60, shot and killed Pernell Dewayne Joe on August 16, 1989.

The shooting happened after Alston’s husband got into a fight with Joe at Dove Meadows.

A jury found Alston guilty of first degree murder. She was sentenced to life in prison.

Based on sentencing laws at the time, the state has to consider paroling Alston.

Alston was denied parole in 2015.

According to the NC Department of Public Safety, Alston has had 17 infractions while in prison.
