BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of people have been rescued in Brunswick County over the last few days. Some areas are worse than others, and in the areas hit the hardest, it is absolute devastation.
From flooding, to essentially no access in or out of the town, the damage has left some residents feeling hopeless.
Then, a dam breach tore through a major road in Boiling Spring Lakes and leaves it crumbling to pieces. Lots of residents are still without power or water, and they have no idea when they will get anything back.
Residents are not sure if they will ever make it out of the town if conditions do not improve.
“You can’t get out of town. You can’t get into town. So I think the last thing I was notified about was if you leave Brunswick County, you’re not getting back in,” said Boiling Spring Lakes resident Mike Maedje.
Brunswick County crews have been working endlessly to keep residents safe, but the destruction is just overwhelming. Maedje says he cannot imagine how long it will take to repair the life-threatening damage.
“Around here it’s pretty devastating. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m new to the area. Been here about three and a half years, and it’s something different. I’ve never experience this one,” said Maedje.
Some people are saying this may be more of a rebuild than just a repair. Brunswick County officials urge residents without power or water to contact the EOC for assistance.
