WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council members got an update about the Project Grace development from New Hanover County staff at an agenda briefing Monday morning.
The county project would mean remodeling the entire block between 2nd and 3rd streets and between Chestnut and Grace Streets.
Mayor pro-tem Margret Haynes says the design is in the very preliminary stages.
She says there are a few concerns council members and the community have about the project.
Haynes says the size of the project is one and how it looks compared to the rest of downtown is another, but she’s not yet sure if she’s for the project entirely.
“I think it remains to be seen,” Haynes said. “I think the library and the museum both need new spaces and change happens and we are growing and so I think another issue is parking so we need that kind of thing in the urban area.”
Haynes said the county plans to go back to the developer before the next discussion about the project.
