MEC All-Conference Basketball awards

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–There are no teams left in the area competing for a basketball state championship. So, this Mideastern conference released their All-Conference awards this week.

The girls player of the year goes to Laney sophomore Saniya Rivers, which was not too much of a surprise. Rivers in her second high school season averaged 24.8 points a game to go along with 12.5 rebounds. Her head coach Ashley Berting was named the girls conference coach of the year.

In the boys side of things it was Laney’s Marc McLaurin that named the MEC player of the year. McLaurin led the league in scoring at nearly 16 points a game and 9.5 rebounds for the Buccaneers.

After leading his team to another conference regular season title and a 20-8 record, Hoggard’s Brett Queen was named the coach of the year.
