New Hanover Co. Sheriff’s Office brings Christmas cheer to local kids

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It was all smiles at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office’s annual “Make A Child Smile” event. Deputies and others close to the department sponsored local children and got them Christmas gifts. The Santa made an appearance to help hand out the gifts.

Social Services recommended the 83 children who participated. It was definitely a good time for the kids who were chosen like 11 year-old Devon Vaughan.

“It’s kind of good because we get all the sugar, my parents are super happy, my family is happy right now,” said Vaughan.

New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon said it’s important his office goes above and beyond for the kids in his community.
