Man flips car and ends up in Dairy Queen parking lot


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating a DWI and crash that occurred Friday evening.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m.

Police say Vernon L. Carson was recklessly driving down Dawson St. when his vehicle ran off the road, struck a fire hydrant and utility pole, crossed the sidewalk and overturned, and finally stopped at the Dairy Queen.

The driver was released with a citation for DWI and a warrant to be issued for careless and reckless driving.

Carson didn’t appear to be injured, but was transferred to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. There is no update on his condition at this time.
