27th annual ‘Take Back the Night’ march downtown

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Dozens gathered in downtown Wilmington tonight for the 27th Annual ‘Take Back the Night’ March for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Advocates outreach coordinator Andrea Stough said tonight is all about taking a stand and saying domestic violence does not have any place in our community and that any victims out there have a support system to reach out to if they need it.
“It’s so important when we hear messages like ‘Why doesn’t a victim just leave?’ or when we’re given mixed messages about domestic violence, it’s so important for a community to come together and say we’re here, we support you,” said Stough.

Stough said she hopes events like tonight draw attention to the resources that are out there for people to make positive changes and live the healthy and happy lives they deserve.
