2,000 pounds of food provided to Castle Hayne residents

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Food Lion and the Wilmington Food Bank teamed up to provide food to those in need, just in time for the holidays.

Bethany Presbyterian used to hold food pickups every Wednesday, but October’s storms caused them to shut down those services. Bethany was one of three food banks in the area for Castle Hayne residents.

“With this one having to have been closed unfortunately for the last couple of months, we expect a stronger demand today,” said Beth Gaglione with the Wilmington Food Bank.

Today, food lion and the Wilmington Food Bank teamed up to provide over 2,000 points of food to the community from the church.

“There is something special about being out two days before Christmas and watching people walk away with food that’s going to make their holiday meal very special,” Gaglione said.

More than 150 families were provided with food at today’s event.
