2 Marines accused in fatal shooting of horse
JACKSONVILLE — Authorities have filed multiple charges against two Camp Lejeune Marines in connection with the shooting death of a thoroughbred horse in November.
The Daily News of Jacksonville reports that 23-year-old Cpl. Joel Anthony Montano and 20-year-old Pfc. Micah Earl Joslyn are charged with cruelty to animals, conspiracy and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
Bond was set at $25,000 each.
Warrants filed with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office accuse the two of killing a Hanoverian with a .22-caliber rifle. The bullet lodged in the horse’s liver and it had to be euthanized.
2nd Marine Division spokesman 1st Lt. Philip Klay says Joslyn and Montano are scout snipers with 3rd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment.
