3 Wilmington students get full ride to ECU


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Three Wilmington high school seniors have been selected for the EC Scholars program at East Carolina University.

According to a news release, the recipients are Aaron Johnson, Hannah Moore and Allison Nelson. The trio are part of 20 selected for the full academic scholarship.

Here’s a breakdown of the seniors’ achievements:

  • Johnson, a senior at Isaac Bear Early College High School with dual enrollment at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, plans to major in biology and fine arts.
  • Moore is a senior at Victory Christian Academy home school with dual enrollment at Cape Fear Community College. She plans to major in speech and hearing sciences.
  • Nelson is a senior at the Eugene Ashley High School. She plans to major in social work.

The total value of the EC Scholars program is $62,000 and covers their undergraduate work and a stipend for study abroad. The incoming EC Scholar recipients have an average combined math/verbal SAT score of 1384, ACT score of 31.5 and average unweighted GPA of 3.92, the release said.
