Cape Fear area citizens asked to help with regional bike plan

LELAND, NC (WWAY) –You want more places to bike? Tuesday, kicked off an effort to get more bike paths in the Cape Fear Region.

The Cape Fear Council of Governments hosted its first public input meeting at the Leland Town Hall. The meeting gave people an opportunity to share their ideas about where to put bike paths across the area counties including Brunswick, Pender, New Hanover, Columbus, western Onslow and southern Sampson counties.

Last year, the NCDOT awarded the Cape Fear Council of Governments a planning grant to develop a regional comprehensive bicycle transportation plan.

Matt Hayes, a principal with Alta Planning and Design, said they are leading the planning process. He said this planning process could eventually give people more options for transportation and a healthier life style.

“It can help congestion but also can certainly be a way to a better quality of life, have healthier living, getting some exercise, so we look at a lot of different ways,” said Hayes.
