Meeting discusses progress of Love Grove Access Project

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A meeting was held at City Hall Sunday to discuss the progress of the Love Grove Access Project.

The last meeting regarding the project was held last October.

Love Grove has only one entrance in and out of the community, which can be blocked by train traffic. Voters approved the access project in the 2014 Transportation Bond.

At today’s meeting, residents got a chance to see updated pictures of the new bridge to be built that will connect the community from 23rd street. The residents are happy to be moving forward with design and construction of the bridge, but many still questioned what happens in the event of an emergency before the bridge is finished.

Love Grove resident Tom Atwood said the bridge will change the lives of the people in the community.

“It would cut out a whole lot of inconvenience and possibly stop a death or two,” Atwood said.

The project will be the first of the bond projects started, and it’s expected it will take two to three years to complete. At the meeting, engineers said they expect the bridge to be completed in December 2017 and are currently on schedule with designs.
