Animal park opens for the season, adds new exhibit
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tregembo Animal Park reopened for the season Saturday and did so with a new exhibit.
The zoo’s new Herpetarium is home to various reptiles and amphibians. Visitors can find snakes, armadillos, bats, and even a rare two-headed turtle. Co-owner Sherry Tregembo said she hopes the the expansion will add to the experience and education for zoo visitors.
“We want them to learn something and we try to educate them on animals and conservation, and the importance of zoos in conservation of animals,” Tregembo said.
The 10 acre zoo, located off Carolina Beach Road, is home to 130 species including lions, tigers, and a giraffe.
