WFD investigating intentionally set fire at local high school Saturday morning

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Fire Department are investigating a fire that they say was intentionally set.

WFD crews were dispatched to John T. Hoggard High School around 4:45 a.m. Saturday morning.

WFD Spokesman David Hines says the first unit arrived at 4:54 a.m. to find a shed on fire in the area of a sports complex.

He says fire crews were able to quickly knock down the fire and place it under control.

The shed and its contents were completely destroyed said Hines.

WFD says another nearby shed suffered some exposure damages from heat, but the bleachers and complex was not damaged.

Hines says the estimated loss is $10,000 for the shed and the exposure shed damages but not include any content.

He says no injuries were reported.

Hines adds that a WFD Fire Investigator has determined the fire was intentionally set.

The investigation is on-going.
