Plans to complete the new interchange were set for Monday, but the NCDOT says those plans were tentative. The Village Road/River Road interchange at the Causeway was set to be closed to motorists until Monday morning, but crews opened the DDI to drivers at 1 p.m. Sunday.

NCDOT spokesman Brian Rick said those plans could change depending on factors including weather. Rick said the interchange opened today ahead of schedule. It was set to open Monday at 6 a.m.
