CFCC students display custom built electric bikes

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Some students are creating some rather cool thrills on two wheels.

Cape Fear Community College Mechanical Engineering Technology students displayed their custom built electric bikes today in the McKeithan Center on CFCC’s North Campus in Castle Hayne.

Daniel Hendrickson, CFCC Mechanical Engineering Technology Program Director, said the bikes are researched, designed and built as part of a two-semester course.

The students have a budget and a hard deadline to complete the project.

“What we try to do is really prepare these students to walk out and get an entry level job at some design firm or technical company where they can start contributing right away, where they know what it takes to make a project and how to get things done,” Hendrickson said.

Hendrickson added that the project is cost effective and a great way to give students hands on experience.
