3rd Street bridge project nearing completion
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The NCDOT said the project to replace a bridge downtown is nearing its end.
NCDOT spokesman Brian Rick said the 3rd Street bridge project is about 70 percent completed.
“We have two spans in place and are working toward setting the last span in the near future,” Rick said.
The completion date is April 1, and Rick said that date still stands. Officials were hoping to have the project completed in time for the Azalea Festival.
The bridge, which closed 3rd Street between Brunswick and Campbell streets, was built in the 1920s and reconstructed in the 1950s. The bridge has been closed since mid-April 2015.
