Wilmington Fire rescues sick construction worker at state port

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department had to help a construction worker at the state port early Tuesday afternoon.

A NC Port of Wilmington spokeswoman says around noon a supervisor found an Orion Marine employee on the ground fatigued and with flu-like symptoms.

Officials say the man was working below the dock and a gurney could not get down there.

Fire crews used a construction crane to get the man onto a rescue basket and then lifted him up to the dock area.

An ambulance took the man to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
