45th Annual Spot Festival a great success

One of the nicest spots to hang out this weekend was at the North Carolina Spot Festival. The 45-year-old event continued its tradition of bringing the community together.

“It’s just a lot of fun it’s always something that I’ve looked forward to this time of year is the spots, so why not come out and celebrate the spot itself and the festival,” said Sharon Harmon, who attended this year’s Spot Festival.

Hampstead resident, Aaron Glover said, “Very interesting a lot of nice crafts and entertainment and a lot of fun for the kids.”

Valerie Nixon made sure she was available to volunteer. “Spot is my favorite fish and it tastes wonderful,” said Nixon.

People stood in long lines for the fried treat. First the spots have to be breaded before they can be deep fried to golden perfection.

“I can’t find one person that says they don’t like spots. Everyone likes spots,” Nixon said.

The spot dinners ran about $8 and all of the proceeds went towards the Hampstead Fire Department and the Topsail school system.

“It makes me feel good that a variety of people can come together to make money for this community,” added Nixon.
