4,900 Duke Energy customers without power in Wilmington

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Almost 5,000 Duke Energy customers are without power Friday night.

Duke Energy Progress spokesman Jeff Brooks said the power went out at a substation near the battleship around 7:15 p.m.

Brooks said they have a crew on site investigating the cause and fixing it. The website says the estimated time of restoration is 11 p.m., but Brooks said they hope to have it fixed sooner than that.

Brooks said this substation serves about 4,900 customers near downtown Wilmington.
