Carolina Soul Festival to feature wellness, music entertainment

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – From dance and fitness to music and health, the Third Annual Carolina Soul Festival get underway in Calabash mid-September.

The one-day event is a fundraiser for a nonprofit called Community Movement Alliance.

“We instruct musical movement and mindfulness programming in Brunswick County elementary schools,” said Nancy Smith, Community Movement Alliance founder.

For the first time, the event will feature a session of goat yoga.

“Goat yoga is something sweeping the country now, more people are practicing yoga with barnyard animals,” Smith said. “Taylor’s Blueberry Farm from Leland will be providing about five or six pygmy or baby goats.”

The event will also feature a Pooch Parade.

“We have room for 25 contestants with all proceeds going to the sheriff’s Animal Adoption Center in Brunswick County,” Smith said.

Some of the other performance acts include a knife and fire-dancing troupe from Samoa called Polynesian Fire and a duo from Myrtle Beach called Fire Circus. They will be juggling, hooping and stilt walking throughout the day.

In addition, there will be a number of bands and a Kids Zone for children.

Carolina Soul Festival gets underway Saturday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 9480 Ocean Highway West in Calabash, NC. Tickets are $5 for adults and children under 10 are admitted free.
