5th Quarter watch list: 5 to watch in 2018
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As we tour around the schools in the area, we’ve been talking with coaches in our area to find out who we should look out for this high school football season. We are blessed with plenty of playmakers on all three sides of the football, but we’ve narrowed the list down to five. This is our 5th Quarter watch list.
We start off with defense, Isaiah Kemp of Hoggard spent the offseason on the recruiting trail. Before heading to Duke next year, he will return to the Vikings secondary.
He has 5 career interceptions from the corner position, with 104 total tackles and 8 tackles for loss in two years playing varsity football on Shipyard Boulevard.
Staying in the Mideastern Conference, it’s the quarterback of the defending state champion New Hanover Wildcats: Blake Walston.
He will be leading the charge for New Hanover once again looking for his third state championship ring after getting one in football and baseball.
Walston finished first in the state of North Carolina with 4,340 yards passing in 2017.
In the Coastal 8 Conference, the Trask defense was always a hard out for any team thanks to Foster Williamson.
The linebacker is coming in to his third season on varsity. In his junior season, he had 133 total tackles, 92 solo, 2 tackles for loss and 2 fumble recoveries. He looks to be one of the main stars returning in Rocky Point.
Over to the Three Rivers, Trequan Bellamy is back once again, one of the best dual threats in our area.
Bellamy had over 2,000 all purpose yards, nearly 3,400 for his career. Not to mention what he brings on defense, where he had 61 total tackles and 3 interceptions for South Columbus a year ago.
The Stallions defense only gave up more than 14 points 3 times in their 14 games in 2017.
Finally, the human joystick, Ty Moss.
Moss came off the bench after the early loss to East Bladen. After that, the Whiteville offense scored an average of 50.2 points per game, with Moss acquiring a starting record of 9-1.
Moss is only a junior and he is coming into his third season on varsity. The wolfpack are one of the early favorites to win the three rivers in 2018.
(This is a list of SOME of the names to look out for. We will follow up with other players throughout the season.)
