68-year-old man on bicycle hit by car

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)– A man crossing the street on his bicycle was hit by a car this afternoon.

Wilmington police spokeswoman Jessica Williams says the 68-year-old man was traveling east on Oleander Drive, crossing Boathouse Road when he was hit at a low speed.

She tell us the man was transported to the hospital and treated for a broken knee, broken nose, and a broken frontal bone or forehead.

Williams says the man was not wearing a helmet.

She says the 27-year-old driver was charged with failure to yield.
