6th Annual Wilmington Race for the Cure® sets $200,000 fundraising goal

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast is about to host its 6th annual Wilmington Race for the Cure® on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Pier 33 in Downtown Wilmington.

The theme this year is ‘Be More Than Pink,’ which highlights the significant impact local survivors, thrivers, health practitioners, researchers, volunteers, donors, sponsors and Race participants make in the fight against breast cancer” said Pam Kohl, Executive Director of Komen NCTC. “Our Wilmington Race fundraising goal is $200,000, which will support local breast health programs and life-saving breast cancer research.”

Seventy-five percent of the money raised will stay in Central and Eastern North Carolina to help women and their families impacted by cancer. The remaining 25 percent supports Susan G. Komen’s national research program.

This year, researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University were granted $1.3 million to support the organization’s goal of decreasing breast cancer deaths by 50 percent by 2026.
