80 students cited at frat party at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AP) — Eighty students at Wake Forest University face charges of underage drinking after police were called to break up a massive fraternity party.

Multiple media organizations reported that fire officials also are seeking criminal charges. Investigators found that fire detectors at the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity were covered with plastic cups and duct tape.

Police said there were about 200 to 300 people at the party when they arrived about 2 a.m. Sunday.

Officials at the Winston-Salem university revamped their alcohol policy after six people were taken to hospitals for alcohol poisoning after an off-campus party in January. The school’s new alcohol policy extends standards of conduct to off-campus activities.
