911 caller also witness who shot at Wilmington robbery suspect

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — WWAY has audio of the 911 call after a violent robbery off of Old Eastwood Road Thursday night.

Wilmington Police said a black male came up to a woman as she was leaving a business then started attacking her with a hammer.

A witness heard what was happening and yelled at the man and then shot at him with his gun. After that, he called 9-1-1.

“So, I run back in and she has a gun here in the office that I used,” the caller said.

“Did you shoot somebody or you just went and got the gun?” the 911 operator asked.

“No, I shot at him,” the caller said.

The suspect got away. The victim is in the hospital recovering, but there’s no word how she’s doing.
