911 caller describes alleged machete attack

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 911 call reveals the frantic rush to get a victim to the hospital after getting caught up in Sunday’s gruesome murder. The call is from one of the victims of what New Hanover County District Attorney Ben David calls a machete attack over the weekend in Wilmington.

Monday Darrell Gerard Taylor, 34, made his first court appearance on murder charges, charges that stem from alleged attacks Sunday.

A chilling 911 call of a victim’s relative was made describing a vicious attack in the parking lot of the Greentree Apartments off Kerr.

“He sliced her in the neck,” the caller said. “He just came out of nowhere. He walked up to me on my side of the car, and he said, ‘Give me the keys,’ and she saw him before I did, and she threw him her keys. And when she threw him the keys, he ran up to her, and he just sliced her and she fell.”

David says Taylor stole the woman’s car keys and used a machete to try to kill her and a 3-year-old boy.

“I just saw a big thing in his hand and she said it was a machete,” the caller said.

Taylor is also charged with the murder of Yawanda Felicia Doe and her 1-year-old daughter.

When police arrived at the scene they say they found Taylor, who was armed, and took him into custody.
