911 calls describe fire that damaged two Wilmington homes
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A fire damaged two homes in Wilmington over the weekend.
It happened around 10 p.m. Saturday night in the 1600 block of Castle Street.
Several people called 911 as they saw the flames.
Caller: It’s across the street from 1601 Castle. The house is on fire.
Dispatch: Ok. Hang on one second.
Caller: The house next door is catching on fire as well. It’s spreading.
Dispatch: Ok. Hang on.
Caller: Corner of 16th and Castle.
In another 911 call, the caller describes people being pulled from the home.
Dispatch: Are there any people or animals inside?
Caller: Oh my goodness. We don’t know. Man, it’s people trying to get people out of the house. Oh my God, man. Oh my God. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness.
Dispatch: And you said it started on the porch and it spread to the house?
Caller: Yes, ma’am. Yes ma’am. It started on the porch. Yes ma’am.
Dispatch: Alright, yeah. We’ve got the fire department en route to you. Stay on the line. I’m going to tell you exactly what to do next. If it’s safe to do so.
Caller: Yes, ma’am.
Dispatch: Do not try to put the fire out. Do not carry anything out that is on fire. And just meet with the first arriving emergency vehicle and inform them if there are any people or animals inside the structure.
Caller: I think they’re pulling people out now. They’re pulling people out now. They’re pulling people out now.
Dispatch: Alright.
Caller: Yes, ma’am. They’re pulling them out. Oh my God. They breaking – he’s trying to bust the windows out now, trying to get the people out.
The people in both homes were able to get out before firefighters arrived.
No one was injured.
